How to use

  1. Type syllables with tone numbers 1–4: ma1 ma2 ma3 ma4 → mā má mǎ mà.
  2. Neutral tone is 5, 0, or no number: ma5 → ma.
  3. Type v or u: for ü: lv4 → lǜ, nv3 → nǚ.
  4. Spaces optional: ni3hao3 works too. Punctuation is kept.
  5. Reverse it: paste tone marks (nǐ hǎo), switch to Marks → numbers, get ni3 hao3.

Tone placement rules

Marks follow standard pinyin: a first (hao3 → hǎo), then o, then e; iu marks the u (liu2 → liú), ui marks the i (hui1 → huī).
